Webinar – Continuing the Cat® Mining Technology Journey

Join Bill Dears for a special one-on-one interview with Michael C. Murphy, Chief Engineer in the Surface and Mining Technology division of Caterpillar.

Michael has responsibility for Caterpillar’s technology strategy for both surface and underground mining operations. For more than 20 years, he has been engaged in all aspects of Caterpillar’s mining technology programs, including automation of large mining trucks, track type dozers, rotary blasthole drills and underground LHD’s. During 2013 and 2014, he launched the Caterpillar Autonomous Haulage System in Western Australia with both BHP and Fortescue Metals Group. The Fortescue Metals Group project is one of the largest automation projects in mining, with 55 x 240 ton trucks in operation and further expansion to over 160 trucks recently announced.

Having a unique perspective on over 25 years of work on autonomy at Caterpillar, Michael presented “The Journey of Using Autonomous Machines in Mining” to the 2017 Convocation of the Professional Engineering Societies in Washington, DC. This webinar builds on that presentation with recent updates.
