A Growing Partnership: Making a Commitment to Continuous Improvement
The Kumtor gold mine, located in the Kyrgyz Republic, is the largest gold mine in Central Asia and sits at an altitude of 13,123 feet (4,000 meters). Owned by Canadian company Centerra Gold Inc., the mine is operated by Kumtor Gold Company — a local business with a commitment to employing local citizens and working with local suppliers. That commitment includes Cat dealer Borusan Makina Kazakhstan, which supports the mine’s fleet of Cat loading, hauling and support equipment. While their relationship is relatively new, the success that Kumtor and Borusan are having together is proven and growing. Continuous improvement projects conducted in partnership with Borusan and Caterpillar are helping the mine exceed its goals — keeping machine availability high, moving more tons, producing more ounces — and doing it at a lower operating cost.
