Cat® plow systems are renowned to represent the most effective production method in low and medium coal seams below 1.8 meters (71 inches) – capable of mining seams up to 2.3 meters high. A Cat GH1600 plow system at the German Ibbenbueren mine is now mining a 3m seam height. Due to a great danger of methane gas outbursts a shearer is no option and a plow system is the only way for coal extraction here. In the given geological conditions the GH1600 plow system proofs to be a very safe, productive and economic cutting tool even in seams well above three meters high!
