In 2020, the Moolarben underground coal mine has been awarded “Coal Mine of the Year” in Australia. The award from mining magazine “Australian Mining” acknowledged the mine for demonstrating highest level of productivity, efficiency, and safety. Yancoal’s Moolarben Coal Operations has grown into the highest producing, lowest cost thermal coal mining operation in Australia.

In 2017, the mine introduced a Cat longwall system with advanced longwall automation technology which enables constant high production rates. Cat longwall automation integrates all functions to operate the shearer, roof supports and the conveyor drives which results in ultimate horizon and extraction Control.
