Safety: How to Improve Operator Visibility

When you’re operating some of the largest machines in the world — in active, complex mining environments — you need to be aware of everything around you. That’s why improving visibility is high on the list of safety initiatives for mining companies. Using a combination of site design and technology, mining companies are taking advantage of every option for increased visibility for machine operators and others on site. In this video, we’ll illustrate how two Cat MineStar™ Detect technologies — Object Detection and Proximity Awareness — can help miners in this effort. Object Detection uses onboard cameras and radar to remove operator blind spots around their equipment, while Proximity Awareness makes use of satellite navigation and data radios to display the locations of other equipment and assets beyond reach of its radars. In addition, we’ll show how the features in Terrain for grading allow operators to see distances and locations of other machines.
