For decades, mining companies have recognized that operator fatigue and distraction are having an impact on their operations. But many don’t know the magnitude of that impact — the risks it imposes and the overall cost to the bottom line. By combining the latest technologies with people and processes, mines are finally getting the full picture of fatigue and distraction. In this video we’ll discuss Caterpillar technologies that are helping miners control and eliminate the problem, including the Cat Driver Safety System (DSS). The DSS is an in-cab technology that uses cameras and sensors to measure operator eye-closure duration and head pose to determine the onset of fatigue and microsleeps and deliver real-time detection and alerts. We’ll hear from a customer who has successfully deployed the Cat DSS to address this important safety issue.
